IT AND FINANCE

Possibly the other day I changed my life in a very meaningful way, by rethinking what I wanted to lean towards in my future professional career.
Finance seems a very good way to go actually...

Nokia N97

For anyone who didn't believe me with my last post. Here's the definite Smartphone that will say "bye bye" to Apple's iPhone.
We will see next Spring 2009, what will happen...

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (Nokia Tube)

I WANT TO ANNOUNCE THE NEW IT REVOLUTION AS REGARDS CELLPHONE/SMART PHONE DEVICES. IT'S NOT THE iPHONE AS EVERYONE WAS EXPECTING, IT'S EVEN BETTER ---> Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
A much better device than the "untouchable"phone of Apple!!

And what is more important (since I come from Spain) is that Nokia chose Spain to be the first European country to get the device.
After my little Marketing speech, I will leave my readers to judge for themselves. I think my preferences are quite clear, when talking about smart phones.

AS A FINAL REMARK: "It's a fact that Nokia has much more experience than Apple."

LAST QUIZ -INTRO TO IT CLASS

Personally, I ran out of time trying to finish this quiz. I think that many other classmates felt the same way, and as the teacher said :"this one was tough". So, I should not feel as bad, since I know that I knew the content of the quiz. That's what is all about in this life: knowing and learning...

Given the already publicly recognized American recession, here's an article that may ease our feelings in general as IT students, or IT professionals of the future.

Information Technology definition

Since IT continuously shapes his definition, this document will try to also reflect that accordingly.

For this reason, the document will be updated more than one time.

And I will appreciate if you could contribute with your comments for a better definition.

HEURISTICS

Now that we discussed in class the heuristics for user interface design...

Here's a little essay that I've written about a similar topic we all should be aware of.....>>the big impact that UCD should have on IT professionals.

CCNI

Last Tuesday's visit to CCNI dissapointed me in the way that we actually didn't get to see and TOUCH THE SUPERCOMPUTER!!

Anyway, this type of field trips and guest speakers are a very dynamic aspect of this course, which I am thoroughly enjoying.

Some good IT news of the week:>

FLEX BUILDER!!

What an amazing application!! There's only one problem that I find with IT in general, and that is: IT needs time, time to practice.
Little by little, I believe that I will start spending more and more time on building and developing , because the results are very rewarding.

A little article that I want to share as regards the use of IT for Change.

John Kolb, RPI's CIO

Today's guest speaker was a wonderful opportunity to get the sense of what a CIO actually does.
It's been the job that drove my desire to study IT, and therefore, I feel lucky for having had the chance to learn from Mr Kolb's experience.
I have been reading CIO Magazine on a weekly, almost daily basis, since 3 years already. So, Mr. Kolb for me was the first CIO I had ever heard talking. And funny or not, that means an accomplishment to get where I want.

An interesting article that lifted me up was:

AS A GEN Y KID, NOTHING ELSE I COULD SAY TONIGHT OTHER THAN:
YES WE CAN!

Second Quiz lessons

Last friday, I was really challenged by the question of hacking the Spookymail!

I looked up the source and everything... but since the question hadn't been part of the lab during the week, and was considered ""extra challenge"", I only completed the lab question and did not get to that one. That's why I was not prepared the day of the exam.

In any case, I found out how to get on Dave's fake email after class.. So, that's the lesson that I should take into account even if i didn't answer it right on the quiz.

Beginning of Info. Security

Today's lesson of how the cookies work on each server and their interaction among websites...Was quite interesting in the sense that without good Web Developers or Information Security specialists nowadays, GENERAL USERS WOULD be screwed !
I think hackers had a better chance in the old days...

Let's hire Mimi

Last week's discussion about Harvard Business Review article showed me how we all have to rethink about several ethical issues at work, whether we are the person hiring or the candidate.
In any case, in today's world, the Information Age is determining the ways our values are formed.
The HBR article:

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Maybe I should have started blogging by defining first of all what IT actually is.

Since IT continuously shapes his definition, this document will try to also reflect that accordingly.

For this reason, the document and I will appreciate if you could contribute with your comments for a better definition.

GEN Y

That's what we are, that's what I am: A MILLENIAL!!!
Indeed, Gen Y has been causing many trouble to some old managers who didn't know how to "manage"/handle these kids...

Here's a more detailed presentation that I've done about these high-tech kids...

First essay about politics

http://www.box.net/shared/unygfvr347

This essay taught me the huge world of technology mixed with marketing in a political setting...
By researching at Obama's website, I was amazed at the media set up they've got... Really, I'm not a US citizen, but it made me want to vote for him!
Incredible Website strategy focused on the people and on networking. Happy with the first assignment

Technology is everywhere!
